About
My name is Li-Mei Chen, PhD, MSW, FGSA
Welcome! I’m Dr. Li-Mei Chen (pronounced lee-may chen), and I’m passionate about reimagining aging through research, education, and community engagement. As a gerontologist and professor, I explore how social and civic engagement, relationships, and life experiences shape health and well-being in later years—and I believe that aging should be full of dignity, opportunity, and connection.

Something interesting about me? I love blending science with real-world impact. Whether it’s designing innovative training programs for nursing home staff or mentoring future leaders in aging, I’m always looking for ways to turn research into action. Oh, and I never say no to a good cup of matcha or coffee!

Thanks for stopping by—let’s work together to make aging a more positive experience for all.

About Us
The aim of our research is to improve the health, independence, and quality of life as we age by promoting social and civic engagement and relationship-building. We want to contribute positively to our communities and maintain the health, safety and independence of our older adults. Our research strives to provide inspiration and knowledge to our communities and advocate for policies regarding the importance and significance of social and civic engagement for better public health outcomes.
