About

My name is Li-Mei Chen, PhD, MSW, FGSA

Welcome! I’m Dr. Li-Mei Chen (pronounced lee-may chen), and I’m passionate about reimagining aging through research, education, and community engagement. As a gerontologist and professor, I explore how civic engagement, relationship-building, and lived experiences shape health and well-being in later years—and I believe that aging should be full of dignity, opportunity, and connection. I am currently interested in building evidence towards social prescribing (ie., non-pharmacological, non-clinical interventions for preventive care and health promotion).

Thanks for stopping by! Let’s work together to make aging a more positive experience for all.

The Team

Ten George Mason undergraduate students and five high school students were selected to work with our team in summer 2024. The team was awarded Best Research Poster.

About Us

The aim of our research is to improve the health, independence, and quality of life as we age by promoting civic engagement and relationship-building. We want to contribute positively to our communities and maintain the health, safety and independence of our older adults. Our research strives to provide inspiration and knowledge to our communities and advocate for policies regarding the importance and significance of civic engagement and relationship-centered approaches for better public health outcomes.
